Need some organic, locally-produced, socially-conscious, awesome lip balm for the summer? Pick up some ADVENTURE Balm, made by our Tribe in Iowa: http://tapwater.causevox.com/adventurebalm!

The ADVENTURE Balm is made by Leslie (above), Tesi, and Jennie, who are our featured members today, with another creative and impressively crafty idea for raising funds to provide jobs and clean water for families in India:

“In the coming weeks, several local TAP enthusiasts will enjoy a ‘crafting night’ at which we’ll make homemade lip balm, package it in cute containers, and sell it to our friends — donating all proceeds to [The Adventure Project]’s water initiative! We’re hoping to sell enough lip balm to equip at least one mechanic with everything they need to be an on-the-ground part of this water revolution. And we’ll have a great time while doing it!”

- Leslie Klipsch, Davenport, IA

Meet Tammi, one of our incredible, passionate advocates and fundraisers. Read about her experience raising awareness and funds for The Adventure Project’s programs, such as our Water Campaign.

How did you do it?
“I would love to take credit for it, but really it is just using the amazing tools that the Adventure Project Team creates for these campaigns. I am so busy during the day, and the ability to cut and paste a link, or to use succinct language to explain how what we are doing is going to tangibly change the lives of real people. That’s the kind of messaging that reaches me personally, so it’s great to have that at our fingertips! Most of my friends who contributed towards the campaign appreciated being able to do it so easily, and it keeps them coming back!”What was your favorite part of the process? Or what surprised you most?
“Wow, as crazy as it sounds, one of my favorite parts is hitting refresh on the computer when we’re on a deadline to raise a specific amount. It’s almost addicting watching the numbers creep up and up as donations come trickling in, and knowing that every $550 means thousands of REAL lives are going to be changed. It’s hard to put that feeling into words, but I do know that it has kept me up past my bedtime more than once!”

Why did you invest your time, talent and resources for the campaign? What stirred your heart about it?
“Because I am tired of the widely held assumption that the world’s poorest people just want handouts. It is a privilege to partner with an organization like The Adventure Project that gets it. They get that basic tenet of ‘teach a man (or woman!!) to fish’ and they encourage the rest of us to get on board too. I think most people that have grown up in Western privilege think that so many of the problems in the world are too big to solve, but campaigns like this, and like the stove campaign before it, show that is not the case. It helps individuals who want to help but don’t know how to empower individuals who would like that little start-up push and don’t know where to get it. Dignity and empowerment are the name of the game, and it is so much FUN to play!!!”

We have two fabulous featured Well Mechanic Club members today: Kelsey and Mark Ellis of Olympia, WA.

Last Friday, Mark and Kelsey hosted a dinner party at their home. Kelsey prepared her favorite recipes, used her best china, and sold tickets on her fundraising page for $25.

The couple’s goal is to fund one well mechanic in India who will keep clean water flowing for 5,000 people.

We love these fun and creative fundraisers (especially any involving food)! Hope you all are inspired by our Well Mechanics Club members too. To learn more about the group, check out our Pinterest board!

Today’s featured member from our Well Mechanics Club is Cassie Burback, a passionate mom who raised $1,205 for clean water in India.

How did she do it?
Cassie leveraged social media such as her Facebook and Twitter, along with her blog. Her passion showed through her writing and advocating, inspiring her networks and community to rally behind the cause as well.

What were the results?
She raised over $1,000 — enough to hire two mechanics and provide clean water for over 10,000 people in rural India!

Why do we love this?
Cassie told us that her favorite part was “seeing unexpected donations come in from old friends and being able to connect again.” Not only did she raise money for clean water, but she also inspired and brought together people within her immediate community and outside of it. Awesome.

Meg Duerksen is the second highest fundraiser of our water campaign thus far!

How did she do it?
Meg has an awesome and very popular blog about her life, her family, photography, art, and design. It’s pretty fun and fantastic, and we recommend you go look at her recent photos of cows and chicken (or maybe we’re just fascinated because we don’t really have those here in NYC)

Using her blog as a call-to-action platform, Meg promoted the clean water campaign. She included an entry for fun giveaway baskets for everyone who donated to her page.

What were the results?
She has raised $2,740! And probably gave away a ton of great, crafty items.
In essence, Meg and her network of phenomenal supporters came together to hire and train 4 well mechanics in India, providing clean water for 20,000 people.

Why we love this?
It was fun, engaging, and Meg used what she already had in order to make a huge splash on World Water Day: her blog, her large following, and her crafty ideas and great photography. You don’t always need to come up with brand new ways to raise money and engage your friends. Use what you have — it clearly can go a long way!

We’d like to introduce you to Ashley Nielsen, today’s featured member of our Well Mechanics Club.

What did she do?
Ashley was the lead organizer for a benefit concert in Olympia, WA, which featured a local bands in a favorite local venue. The proceeds of the concert went to The Adventure Project and our water initiative, helping to hire and train local leaders to become well mechanics and provide clean water for thousands of people throughout India.

What were the results?
A lot of happy music lovers, and enough tickets sold to help fund 3 well mechanics in India ($1,600)! That equates to consistently flowing clean water for approximately 15,000 people.

Why do we love this fundraiser idea?
Ashley tapped into her local community, engaging them with what’s familiar — a local band that everyone loves at a local venue that everyone frequents. At The Adventure Project, we’re all about local engagement to solve global issues, whether it’s on the ground in rural India training community leaders or activating our next door neighbors to strum guitars and raise funds.

Huge thanks to Ashley and everyone involved with the benefit concert in Olympia, WA!

Meet Kim Pellegrino (and her beautiful family). Kim raised over $1,000 on World Water Day, helping to hire and train one well mechanic in India. Read our quick interview with Kim about the creative idea she came up with to fundraise.

How did you do it?
I decided to organize a photo session day highlighting mothers for Mothers’ Day. While I was processing the details, I suddenly thought about adding another element to this day. Giving back. Once the thought was in my head, I couldn’t ignore it. So I advertised a 30 minute session, 10 photos, $100 per session….and my commitment was that 50% of my proceeds would be donated to theadventureproject with a goal of raising $550 to hire a mechanic. At that point, I was addicted to spreading the word; I posted a message on my Nesting With Two blog to get the word out.

What was your favorite part of the process? Or what surprised you most?
My favorite part is that everyone that has signed up for the photo session has commented that they are excited about the cause. Awesome. It means something to others and that is exciting.

Why did you invest your time, talent and resources for the campaign? What stirred your heart about it?
We are so richly blessed. The Lord has truly blessed us beyond measure. Why not give back. Spread the word. He provides so much when we are faithful to his calling.

Here’s a fresh way to give: for every vanilla-almond scented bar of soap you purchase, a portion of the proceeds will go towards hiring and training a local leader in rural India to become a well mechanic, who will then go on to maintain 50 wells and provide clean water to over 5,000 people.

All from a bar of soap.

So pick up yours today. Do good and smell good all in one shot.

Oh, and did we mention that all soaps are organic and vegan? So many wins for just $20.
