Funny story.
One of our supporters one day mentioned that she wanted to buy a “Hakuna Matata” t-shirt for her intern that she had found on Etsy. Upon purchase, she realized that a portion of the shirt’s proceeds would be donated to The Adventure Project.
We had no idea this social business benefiting us even existed until we received this email.
And that’s how we discovered Stacey Lauren. We love surprises like that.
Of course, in the typical TAP way, we wanted to get to know her better, so we did a quick little interview.
1) What first inspired you to design your own socially-minded clothing line?
SL: I am a graphic designer and an animal lover, and in wanting to find a way to combine these interests, I decided to design a line of tees that would benefit animals. I started with all animal-related designs, but I have since decided to include other causes as well. I have three collections, titled “Love”, “Rock”, and “Live”, each donating to different causes.
2) Why did you choose to support The Adventure Project?
SL: An acquaintance had told me to check out the charity, and once I saw what you do, I knew I’d love to help. It’s inspiring to see all of the different solutions you support and the ways that they make a huge difference for people in need.
3) We’re all about adventures so I would like to know, what is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
SL: Go on safari in Africa! I just returned 2 days ago. It was exhilarating, amazing, the best thing I’ve ever done by far. Not only seeing the most incredible animals in the Serengeti, but also seeing how people live in Tanzania and what they’re daily life is like.
4) What are you most passionate about?
SL: I guess I would have to say animal rights. I grew up in a house full of pets, and feel for those animals that can’t speak for or defend themselves from abusive people. The designs in my “Love Collection” donate to the Humane Society of the US. I wish I could protect them all! For now, I have my hands full with my adopted pit bull!

We not only love Stacey Lauren because of her support for us (that’s a major perk), but also because she’s a woman entrepreneurs looking to make a social impact with her self-run business!
Be sure to check out her super cute Etsy store, RIC by Stacey Lauren. Each item supports a specific non-profit. Of course, we encourage you to purchase something that supports The Adventure Project, but all of her other products are great too :)
